The Ashgate Publishing Group is an independent publishing company that started in 1967. It was founded by its chairman, Nigel Farrow, who is also chairman of the Estelle Trust. It is an international company with offices in the UK, the USA and Australia.
Ashgate publishes over 800 new titles each year under the Ashgate, Gower and Lund Humphries imprints. The Ashgate list of scholarly research monographs in the social sciences and humanities includes a well-established list in African Studies, as well as lists that report international research into the academic disciplines and public policy in areas such as social welfare, international relations, business and academic development, and education and training.
As well as paying for most of the administrative costs of the Estelle Trust, Ashgate is the co-sponsor with the Trust of the microloan and research fellowship progammes.
