With over 400 staff and students, the Peace Studies Department in the University of Bradford’s School of Social and International Studies is the world’s largest university centre for the study of peace and conflict resolution. It is the home of the John and Elnora Ferguson Centre for African Studies which supports teaching and research on Africa at the university and it is where the Estelle Trust/Ashgate research fellowship is located.
Nana K. Poku is the John Ferguson Professor of African Studies at the University of Bradford: he is an Ashgate author and strong supporter of the Estelle Trust. He was previously Senior Policy Advisor to the Executive Secretary of the UN’s Economic Commission for Africa and Director of Research for the UN Secretary General’s Commission on HIV/AIDS and Governance in Africa. Professor Poku’s research interests include the links between health and political instability, poverty and vulnerability, globalization and inequality, conflict and children in Africa and he serves as a scientific advisor to DFID.
